Interview with Diane Alberts and Giveaway - May 11, 2012

Please welcome Diane Alberts to The Qwillery.

Diane:  Hello, and thanks so much for having me here to talk about Divinely Ruined, the first book in the Divine Temptations Trilogy!

TQ:  My pleasure! What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

Diane:  Hm. I absolutely, positively, must have a mug of coffee next to me if I’m writing. Even if I’m just writing blog posts. And yes, I have one next to me right now. But it’s empty. I’ll be right back, I’m going to fix that…

…Okay, I’m back. Next!

TQ:  Who are some of your favorite writers? Who do you feel has influenced your writing?

Diane:  Oh, there’s so many to name! We could be here all day. I’ll stick to recently discovered favorites, okay? Favorites: Rachel Harris, J. Lynn, Jennifer Probst, Robin Bielman, and Annie Seaton. I’ve read all of them in the past month or so, and adored them all!

Influenced: I’m gonna have to go with some authors that I hope, one day, will read one of my books: Christina Dodd, Teresa Medeiros, Johanna Lindsey, Jude Deveraux, and Heather Graham. They are all amazing authors!

TQ:  Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Diane:  I’m traditionally a pantser, all the way…but lately, I’ve dappled in plotting. I’m currently working on the second in the Divine Temptations series, Divinely Ransomed, and I actually plotted. ~insert gasp here~

There is a third book coming in the series, and since I had to make sure it all blended together nicely, I made an outline for the second half of the book. I’ll let you know if I stick to said outline. ;)

TQ:  What is the most challenging thing for you about writing?

Diane:  Making my characters one hundred percent unique, real, and three dimensional. I spend a lot of time obsessing over their traits, reactions, and beliefs. I want the characters to leave a lasting impression, and come across as someone you could know.

TQ:  Describe Divinely Ruined (Divine Temptations Trilogy 1) in 140 characters or less.

Diane:  Aspiring angel tries keep her mouth shut, her hands to herself, and her heart safe-- from her irresistible charge and his adorable daughter.

TQ:  What inspired you to write Divinely Ruined?

Diane:  I got the idea of having a single father, struggling to make ends meet and having a downright shoddy look on life itself, and his adorable girl saved by an angel. The angel, while at first shy and welcoming, blossomed into a cursing, sassy, bigger than life itself angel—with bright red hair.

Rebecca was quite vocal about how she wanted to be portrayed, and I, of course, listened!

TQ:  Who was the easiest character to write and why? Hardest and why?

Diane:  Rebecca would definitely be the easiest. She knew what she wanted to be, and I loved her sense of humor, and her golden heart that was buried beneath a tough exterior wall. I had so much fun learning how she worked and what made her tick.

Miranda has to be the hardest. My editor and I wanted her to come across as real, fresh, and loveable. She’s such a cute little peanut, and she needed to be perfect.

TQ:  Without giving anything away, what is/are your favorite scene(s) in Divinely Ruined?

Diane:  Oooh. The scene in the kitchen, where Tony gives her a new memory to love. I adore the scene for many reasons I won’t go into, since I don’t want to spoil the fun, but I love the tension and heat.

TQ:  What's next?

Diane:  I’m currently working on the second book in the Divine Temptations Trilogy, Divinely Ransomed. It’s got a sword-wielding hero, and a heroine who totes a gun. And, of course, Sally!

TQ:  Thank you for joining us at The Qwillery

Diane:  Thanks so much for having me here, and letting me chat about the Divine Temptations Trilogy, and Divinely Ruined!

About Divinely Ruined

Divinely Ruined
Divine Temptations Trilogy 1
Ever After/Entangled Publishing,  April 2012
eBook, 193 pages

You can read an excerpt here.

She finally meets a decent man—after she’s oath-bound never to touch men again!

Rebecca’s life sucked before she became an angel. Crappy apartment, awful jobs, abusive boyfriends–it was no wonder she jumped at the chance to escape it all and become a real live angel. The problem is Rebecca’s not very angelic, and she’ll have to do more to earn her wings than end her love affair with the word f—er, frick.

Especially when she’s assigned to save single father Tony Weis, whose less-than-pure thoughts wreak hell on a telepathic angel’s nerves. It’s all Rebecca can do to keep her hands off him…but when she loses her memory injuring herself to save Tony’s daughter, now it’s Tony’s turn to be her angel and care for her. But will Tony’s devotion tempt her from her angelic path, even if it means being human again?

  2. I don't know if I have a favorite--I just want them to be portrayed well and given good characterization :) I do tend to read a lot of vampire books though (but that's probably because of their prevalence in the genre right now!).

  3. I have lots of favorites, but if I had to choose one it would be a shapeshifter who was not controlled by the moon. I am a bit of a control freak I guess, no one mentioned this comment section would turn into a self-awareness seminar LOL Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to share with us today and for the awesome opportunity to win a copy of this book. I think Divinely Ruined sounds like a real fun read and I am looking forward to the journey.

  4. Thanks for a great interview and giveaway! Definitely going to have to go check out this book further!

I like shifters of any kind. There's something so organic and natural about these creatures that appeals to me. I guess of all of the supernatural creatures, these would be the ones I think are most believable :)

  5. Hello Diane, TQ and all :)

Diane, your book sounds GREAT! I absolutely LOVE the cover :)

These days I am a stuck on werewolves. Why? It's because they are so damned alpha and know exactly what they want and don't stop until they get it. I find determination very attractive!

Thank you for a chance to win!

  13. Lately, I want to read something other than vampires & weres (though I do love them!) But I'm not sure what... Something magical in nature, like faeries, perhaps? I guess I don't have a favorite right now... :-/

  14. Diane ~ I read the excerpt of Divinely Ruined and absolutely loved it. I'm going to try to win it first with the generous Qwillery giveaway, but if I strike out I'll have to buy it and finish that story. It pulled me in immediately. Good interview Q.

My favorite paranormal characters are faeries.
