New Release Wednesday Vlog - September 1, 2010 - & Giveaway

Here's another vlog because a few books that I wanteed came out today. Plus there is a giveaway of one of the books along with some bling from the most awesome Cemetery Cat Jewelry!

The Question: What is your favorite cephalopod?

The Goodies: One copy of Blameless by Gail Carriger and The Old Ones necklace from Cemetery Cat Jewelry.

Quitting her husband's house and moving back in with her horrible family, Lady Maccon becomes the scandal of the London season.

Queen Victoria dismisses her from the Shadow Council, and the only person who can explain anything, Lord Akeldama, unexpectedly leaves town. To top it all off, Alexia is attacked by homicidal mechanical ladybugs, indicating, as only ladybugs can, the fact that all of London's vampires are now very much interested in seeing Alexia quite thoroughly dead.

While Lord Maccon elects to get progressively more inebriated and Professor Lyall desperately tries to hold the Woolsey werewolf pack together, Alexia flees England for Italy in search of the mysterious Templars. Only they know enough about the preternatural to explain her increasingly inconvenient condition, but they may be worse than the vampires -- and they're armed with pesto.

The Old Ones
A large sterling silver over brass octopus is framed by beautiful and unusual faceted tourmalated quartz beads. Another quartz bead dangles below. Chain is silver plate. Clasp is pewter. 17"

  1. Woooooot what a great contest!OMG that necklace is fantastic!!!

+1 Well it might not be very original but I've always found the Octopus the weirdest/coolest thing out there. Of course I'm also still a bit traumatized because I remember my uncle making Octopus salad when I was young and it was horrible!!! lol

  10. At the moment my favourite cephalopod is Paiul the Octobus who lives in a tank at a Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany.

He made regular predictions on winners and losers in the FIFA Soccer World cup recently held in South Africa( my home) and had a 90)% accuracy !

It was all just a joke but it was fun..

  14. Hmm...favorite octopus character? Or something. I guess the one that was in Rainbow Fish was pretty cool. She was very helpful to the fish that was a little too "into" himself. But that was the point. She was the wise, old octopus!

  18. Are you kidding? I read and watch way to much bad scifi and horror to like cephalopods! They have a fictitious tendency to radioactively enlarge and eat innocent college student on vacation!

Though I did love the depiction of the Kraken by Tamora Pierce in Wild Magic. Unapologetically evil. No pretending to be all inky and innocent.

  20. Do fictional cephalopods count? 'Cause then I'd have to go with Scott Westerfeld's Behemoth - that is one bad mother of a Kraken. Though the colossal squid they found in Antarctica a few years back is also very, very cool: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/05/080501-giant-squid.html

  27. So my thing with octopi that blows me away is how intelligent they are, excellent "problem solvers". I don't have a FAVORITE one but everytime there is a special on Discovery on "Squids" we have to watch, they are so... "primitive" looking.

Question: I'd have to say that my favorite is the giant squid. Ever since I saw a drawing of a giant squid trying to take a ship down, I've been fascinated. And I loved reading Twenty thousand leagues under the sea!!
