DECORUM Coming in March

HOT OFF OF HOUSE OF X, JONATHAN HICKMAN & MIKE HUDDLESTON LAUNCH NEW IMAGE COMICS SERIES DECORUM THIS MARCH

ORTLAND, Ore. 12/20/2019 — The bestselling, comics titan Jonathan Hickman (House of X, Powers of X, East of West) teams up with fan favorite artist Mike Huddleston (Middlewest, House of X) for an all-new, ongoing science fiction epic in Decorum. The series is set to launch this March from Image Comics.

Decorum will blend the high impact, event level storytelling of Hickman’s recent re-envisioning of X-Men with the sprawling, addictive worldbuilding of the recently concluded East of West.

"We’ve been quietly working on this book for over a year and I’m having the time of my life," said Hickman. "Mike is one of those ridiculously talented artists who is both technically proficient and insanely stylistic—everyone is just going to love what he’s done here."

There are many assassins in the known universe. Decorum is the story of the most well-mannered one.

Huddleston added: "I told Jonathan early on that just wanted to both draw cool stuff and tell a good story, and good news! We’re doing both in spades."

Decorum #1 Cover A by Huddleston (Diamond Code JAN200108) and Decorum #1 Cover B by Huddleston (Diamond Code JAN200109) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, March 11.

Decorum #1 will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

STEALTH Miniseries Coming in March & Is In Development with Universal Pictures and Skybound Entertainment

ROBERT KIRKMAN & MARC SILVESTRI’S ACTION-PACKED MINISERIES STEALTH IN DEVELOPMENT WITH UNIVERSAL & SKYBOUND, PERFECT FOR FANS OF BLACK PANTHER & IRON MAN

PORTLAND, Ore. 12/18/2019 — Image/Skybound Entertainment presents an action-packed, six issue vigilante miniseries this March—Stealth—from the minds of Robert Kirkman (Oblivion Song, The Walking Dead) and Marc Silvestri (Cyber Force, Witchblade), written by Mike Costa, drawn by Nate Bellegarde, and colored by Tamra Bonvillain.

The series features covers by Jason Howard (Cemetery Beach, Trees) and is concurrently in development with Universal Pictures and Skybound entertainment.

Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby will write the script for the forthcoming Stealth adaptation. The writing duo’s credits include Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens. Oscar-nominated Lee Daniels will direct and produce along with his partner Pam Williams. The film will be produced by Skybound’s film team—including Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst, and Sean Furst—and Universal Executive Vice President of Production Matt Reilly will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

For decades, Stealth has waged war on crime in Detroit, but now he’s taken his pursuit of justice too far. Only reporter Tony Barber knows that behind Stealth’s reckless behavior is an older man battling Alzheimer’s—his father. A father unwilling to accept that he’s no longer the hero this city needs…with enemies all too eager to force his retirement.

This pulse-pounding new series is Black Panther meets Iron Man and is a must-read for Dead Eyes fans.

Stealth #1 (Diamond Code JAN200138) will be available  at comic book shops on Wednesday, March 11.

Guest Blog by Alex Hall and Giveaway of EARNEST INK!

Please welcome Alex Hall to The Qwillery. Earnest Ink was published in October 2019 by NineStar Press.

Alex is kindly giving away 5 digital copies of the novel! Enter in the comments below.

When I was small child, I believed magicians and artists were one and the same. The first accomplished amazing things with wand or staff, the second with paintbrush or pencil (or potters' wheel, or sculpting tools, or tapestry needle, camera). Jack Baker, a Santa Barbara artist of international repute who lived just down the lane from my grandmother's house, made his home in small cottage densely surrounded by the sort of tangled, flowering gardens I imagined a wizard might cultivate. I wasn't allowed to play in his garden—Baker had an extensive collection of orchids and succulents and California wildflowers—but I spent many an afternoon walking the edge of his property, peering through palm fronds and pine trees at the Taj Mahal-like sculptures and driftwood animals that lived in the sea-salt shade, certain that if I concentrated hard enough I'd catch a glimpse of the mysterious old man conjuring real life dragons in his cottage.

Hemingway, the main character of my newest novel, is both a magician and an artist. His peculiar brand of magic has made him a household name. Not only is he a talented tattooist, but his work comes to life, literally. People spend money they don't have—big money—for a chance to be his canvas.

While Hemingway is making an excellent living in a near-future version of Hell's Kitchen, the rest of the United States is splintered and struggling in the wake World War III. Borders rise and fall overnight. Technology has collapsed. Magic is waking in its place, turning unwitting citizens into wielders of strange and specific strands of magic.

Hemingway's dystopian Manhattan is a long way from 1990s idyllic Santa Barbara. And I'm a long way from the child who hoped Jack Baker was conjuring dragons with a paintbrush in his seaside cottage. The world has changed. But on the days I worry it's changed for the worst, I pick myself up and spend an hour wandering a local art gallery, or scrolling through my favorite creators on Tumblr, Instagram, and Patreon.

Because I still believe artists are magicians, exposing monsters with a photograph, building familiars out of clay, banishing the darkness with a bit of colored thread.

Earnest Ink
NineStar Press, October 14, 2019
eBook and Trade Paperback, 244 pages

While twenty-year-old FTM Hemingway is making an excellent living as a tattoo artist in a near-future version of Hell’s Kitchen, the rest of the country is splintered and struggling in the wake of a war gone on for too long. Technology has collapsed, borders rise and fall overnight, and magic has awakened without rhyme, reason, or rule, turning average unwitting citizens into wielders of strange and specific strands of magic.

Hemingway’s particular brand of magic has made him a household name. Not only is he a talented artist, but his work comes to life. Literally.

When NYC’s most infamous serial killer—the East River Ripper—abducts Hemingway’s best friend, Grace, he has only days to save her. Hemingway teams up with his stoic cop roommate to hunt for the killer and rescue Grace before she becomes the Ripper’s latest victim. But as the duo chase clues to the serial killer’s identity, Hemingway begins to fear the magic he and the Ripper share might eventually corrupt him too.

Melanie's Month in Review - November 2019

Happy belated Thanksgiving to any and all American readers who celebrate. I hope you had a great time and there was lots of pumpkin pie on hand. I miss pumpkin pie. The Brits don't really eat it and so hard to get good pumpkin. Ho hum....although there are lots of British desserts that I can scoff instead 😋

November was a busy reading month for me as I am one of the Qwillery's agents for SPFBO5. It was the month where we read each other's choice for semi-finalist. Despite thinking I had loads of time to get them all read at a leisurely pace I ended up struggling with one of them and that seemed to eat my reading time. However, despite that the Qwillery's reviewing team made its selection to go forward to the finals. Check out the blog to find out which book we picked.  But the big question I am sure you are asking ....is what else did I read?

For those of you who follow this series you will remember that in October I was listening to the audio version of the Sally Lockhart series by Philip Pullman. I have the two final books to tell you about starting with The Tiger in the Well. This instalment is set 3-4 years after The Tin Princess and Sally is now a mother, successful business woman and enjoying life surrounded by her friends. When she receives a summons to appear in court charged with abandoning the husband she knows she never married and to hand over custody of her most beloved daughter Harriett, Sally couldn't possibly imagine the chaos that her life would become. Someone was working behind the scenes to dismantle the life that Sally has so carefully made for herself. On the run with her daughter Sally has to figure out who is pulling the strings and why they want to take everything and everyone she loves away from her.

I listened to these books back to back and I rather spoiled it for myself.  I had to take a bit of a break after the first few chapters as I felt a bit like too much of a Sally at once wasn't a good thing. I needed to savour the plotline so gave it a rest of a week or so and then tucked back in. This story is very suspenseful as Sally is nearly thwarted every other page.  I did think she was a bit dim in not guessing who was behind her downfall and I found myself wanting to give Sally a bit of a shake. It's a great end to Sally's story though and Anton Lesser does another stellar job bring her and all the east end characters to life.

The Tin Princess is not about Sally. This story is about Sally's best friend Jim and his adventure with with Adelaide, the little girl he helped rescue in book 1. Adelaide has been missing for many years but she is back and out to become a princess of the made up country of Razkavia. Jim is hired as Adelaide's bodyguard and he will need every trick up his cockney sleeve to protect the princess.

The big mystery in The Tin Princess is not who is trying to harm the Princess or how Jim is going to save the day. The mystery is why Pullman chose to write this story in the first place. Other than Sally having a very minor part at the both ends of the book it isn't a book about her despite it being the 4th instalment in the Sally Lockhart series. The story is OK but definitely the weakest of the four. The aspect that I have liked about the other books is that there was a historical element to the story which gave it a hint of realism. Much of the The Tin Princess was set in a fictional country and Adelaide with her strong east end London accent and lack of education would not have been a top pick to marry into the royal family. I found this aspect of the plot to be a combo of Pretty Woman and The Princess Diaries. Another minor downside in the audio version is the change in narrator. This time the story is told by Nigel Anthony and the change in 'voice' was a bit jarring after spending 3 books with Anton Lesser's version of Jim.

The other book I listened to was I, Partridge: We need to talk by Alan Partridge and narrated by Alan Partridge. Alan Partridge is the brain child of Steve Coogan, a famous British Comedian. I won't go into too much detail because Alan Partridge is a bit marmite (you either love him or hate him). If you are a fan then get the audio version because quite simply 'its hilarious!'.

Check out the review of the other book I read in November - Kitty Peck and the Parliament of Shadows.

Well that's it for me and November. I hope you have found some great books to tuck into along with some pumpkin pie! Until next time Happy Reading!

Fire Power Coming in May 2020 From Robert Kirkman and Chris Samnee - Preview

ROBERT KIRKMAN & CHRIS SAMNEE TO LAUNCH NEW ONGOING COMIC BOOK SERIES FIRE POWER THIS MAY
This will be the first new series co-created by Kirkman since The
Walking Dead comic book series conclusion

PORTLAND, Ore. 12/12/2019 — The New York Times bestselling, Eisner Award winning comics titan Robert Kirkman (Oblivion Song, The Walking Dead) is teaming with Eisner winning artist Chris Samnee (Daredevil), Eisner Award winning colorist Matt Wilson (Paper Girls, The Wicked + The Divine), and letterer Rus Wooton (The Walking Dead), to bring fans an all-new, full color, action-packed ongoing series—Fire Power—which will launch from Image/Skybound in May 2020.

“Getting to create a whole new world with its own mythology and rules is always the highlight of my life. Getting to do that with Chris Samnee is definitely a high water mark in this dusty old career of mine,” said Kirkman. “With a massive cast of characters populating this sprawling globe-spanning epic Chris has proven more than adept at handling anything I've thrown at him in the time we've been toiling away on this series in secret. Kung Fu, Fireballs, Chris Samnee, crazy action, Chris Samnee, Chris Samnee. What more could I say to get you excited about this book?”

This is the first new project from Kirkman since the surprise conclusion to his pop culture phenomenon The Walking Dead. Fire Power will more than fill a walker-sized hole in your monthly pull list. This new series also marks Samnee's return to comics after wrapping up his bestselling run on Captain America that concluded in early 2018.

Owen Johnson's journey to China to learn about his birth parents eventually leads him to a mysterious Shaolin Temple. The students there study to rediscover the Fire Power, the lost art of throwing fireballs. A power they claim will be needed soon to save the world. Will Owen Johnson be the first person in a thousand years to wield the Fire Power?

Paul Is Dead Coming in April 2020

NEW SPECULATIVE GRAPHIC NOVEL EXPLORES A WORLD ABSENT A DIFFERENT BEATLE IN PAUL IS DEAD, OUT THIS APRIL

PORTLAND, Ore. 12/10/2019 — Creators Paolo Baron and Ernesto Carbonetti team up for a speculative fiction graphic novel steeped in music history and Beatlemania in the forthcoming Paul Is Dead. It will be available from Image Comics this April.

Set in London, November 1966, this new graphic novel retells the most popular conspiracy theory in music history and, in a sense, showcases the very first “fake news” of the entertainment world.

John Lennon can’t speak, he can’t take his eyes off a photo of a car in flames with the body of Paul McCartney inside. His friend is no longer there, and that means the Beatles are no longer there, either. But John wants to know the truth, and with George and Ringo, he starts to re-examine the final hours in Paul’s life.

Set in the magical atmosphere of Abbey Road Studios during the writing sessions for Sgt. Pepper, the definitive version of the legend of the Paul McCartney’s death.

Paul Is Dead original graphic novel (ISBN: 978-1534316294) will be available on Wednesday, April 22 and in bookstores on Tuesday, April 28. It can be pre-ordered at your local comic book shop on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-A-Million, IndieBound, and Indigo.

Paul Is Dead original graphic novel will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

The Stormlight Archive 4 Coming in November 2020

TOR BOOKS ANNOUNCES THE ON-SALE DATE FOR BESTSELLING AUTHOR BRANDON SANDERSON’S NEW BOOK IN
THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE

Tor Books is thrilled to announce the on-sale date for #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson’s long-awaited new book in The Stormlight Archive. This exciting all-new novel in the beloved epic fantasy series will go on sale November 17, 2020, and is now available for pre-order.

Fans across the world have been eagerly awaiting the release of this next thrilling chapter in Sanderson’s saga that began with the bestselling The Way of Kings (recently named one of the Best Fantasy Novels of the 2010s by Paste), and continued with the #1 New York Times bestsellers Words of Radiance and Oathbringer.

Together, The Stormlight Archive books have sold 4 million copies in all formats, speaking to their wide-reaching appeal and Sanderson’s devoted legions of readers.

Sanderson has been widely praised for the world-building and magic system he has created in this epic fantasy series: welcome to the remarkable world of Roshar, a world both alien and magical, where gigantic hurricane-like storms scour the surface every few days and life has adapted accordingly. Roshar is shared by humans and the enigmatic, humanoid Parshendi, with whom they are at war.

Of this new entry in the saga, Sanderson says, “It has been almost twenty years since I first outlined The Stormlight Archive.  Back then, I didn’t think anyone would be interested in this crazy epic I’d devised--and it’s been so thrilling to see enthusiasm for it grow to such heights over the years.  Book four finally gets to one of the foundational scenes I conceived from the beginning. In fact, it might be the very first big scene I imagined, and my favorite in the entire series.  A part of me can’t believe people are finally going to be able to read it. Less than one year now! Life before death, Radiants.”

Visit https://read.macmillan.com/torforge/stormlight-archive-4-by-brandon-sanderson/ for exciting updates and news about The Stormlight Archive and Brandon Sanderson.

PORTLAND, Ore. 12/05/2019 — The New York Times bestselling, Eisner Award winning creative team behind Chew—John Layman and Rob Guillory (Farmhand)—reunite for a three-issue, crossover, miniseries with Image/Skybound Entertainment’s science fiction horror series Outer Darkness with regular series artist Afu Chan available this March.

“In the years since finishing the final issue of Chew, the urge to return to the world and its characters has been slowly but steadily growing within me. But I had no interest in returning to some generic ‘Untold Case Files of Tony Chu’ type of story. I wanted to return with a story that goes somewhere new, and says something new about the characters. This crossover will do this. And Outer Darkness, believe it or not, is the ideal vehicle to tell this story,” said Layman. “Outer Darkness and Chew are two of my favorite books I’ve ever done, maybe THE favorite books I’ve ever done, and probably the best too. Creatively, combining the two was a dream come true for me. This book is the peanut butter and chocolate of comic book crossovers.”

Tony Chu is a modern-day cop who gets psychic impressions from what he eats. Joshua Rigg is a 28th-century starship captain who flies through an outer space filled with demons, monsters, and ghosts. Sounds like a perfect recipe for a comic book crossover, don’t it? Join the fun with Outer Darkness/Chew #1.

Guillory added: "Returning to the Chew universe was always a no-brainer. I mean, after 60+ issues of Tony Chu’s adventures, how could we not? It’s something longtime fans have clamored for since Chew’s end, and this crossover is the perfect excuse to dive back into the insane world John and I created. It’s the perfect ode to Chew, while highlighting the amazing work John and the insanely talented Afu Chan have been doing on Outer Darkness. It’s two great books that just taste GREAT together."

Outer Darkness/Chew #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, March 4.

Outer Darkness/Chew #1 will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.
