Interview with Erin Kellison and Giveaway - September 8, 2011

Please welcome Erin Kellison to The Qwillery.

Erin:  First of all, a huge thank you to Sally for hosting me here today to help celebrate the release of the third book in my Shadow series, Shadowman. Thanks to everyone for stopping by. Leave a comment for a chance to get all three books in the series: Shadow Bound, Shadow Fall, and Shadowman.

TQShadowman is the 3rd novel in the Shadow series, how have the Shadowlands surprised you since the 1st novel, Shadow Bound?

Erin:  The Shadowlands, or Twilight, has always been my story wild card. I can do whatever I want with it. I’m able to exceed the physics of the mundane world and dive into pure fantasy. BUT, I was completely surprised by how Shadowman perceives that realm.

TQ:  In the Shadow series, which character has surprised you the most?

Erin:  Zoe. I had no idea at the outset that I would use, like, and relate to her so much. She’s a wreck in this book because she’s undergoing a massive character change. She’s very real, very angry, very raw, and I love every moment she’s on the page.

TQ:  Please tell us about The Segue Institute.

Erin:  The Segue Institute is dedicated to the research and understanding of paranormal phenomena arising from the influx of Shadow into the world.

For more information, visit www.SegueInstitute.com for current research projects, personnel, and updates on wraith attacks globally.

TQ:  Describe Shadowman (Shadow 3) in 140 characters or less.

Erin:  Curses, this is hard.

Death builds a gate to Hell to find his love, but she finds him first. A devil is loosed and angels ready for war. All Hell breaks loose.

TQ:  In Shadowman, who was the most difficult character to write and why? Easiest and why?

Erin:  Shadowman was the most difficult! He’s made out of Shadow (magic), and so every aspect of touch and movement had to be re-imagined. And since he’s fae, he has no human sensibilities. I had to step out of myself to make sure his reactions and motivations worked. I had to make an abstraction, Death, a multi-layered character.

Easiest? Rose Anne Petty, psychopath and escapee from Hell. Usually I work on a character a bit before they completely gel both in my mind and with the story. I did not revise a single scene featuring the murderous Rose. I don’t want to think about what that says about me. I can say I had a hell of a lot of fun.

TQ:  The Shadow series is what I would call paranormal romantic suspense. Are there any other genres in which you'd like to write?

Erin:  I love where I’m writing now, but I can also easily see myself going a little more urban fantasy, horror (which is what I started writing), and for a little bit of split personality, sometimes I’d like to kick around a historical romance (medieval). And I’m also working on a YA (in the paranormal romantic suspense subgenre).

TQ:  How many books are planned for the Shadow series? Will there be more novellas?

Erin:  I’m working on the fourth book now, Shadow Fire, which has a release date of July 2012. And I’m contracted for a fifth beyond that. And yes! There will be three more novellas continuing the story I began in Shadow Touch, with characters Cam and Ellie returning.

TQ:  What's next?

Erin:  I’m preparing to dive into part II of Cam and Ellie’s story. I enjoy the novella length, which surprises me because I’d love to write longer books. (What I wouldn’t give to write a 500 page book!) And I’ll be jumping into book five of my Shadow series as well.

TQ:  Thank you for joining us at The Qwillery.

About the Shadow Series

Shadowman
Shadow 3
(Kensington, September 6, 2011)
Ghosts
They haunt the halls of the Segue Institute, terrifying the living, refusing to cross over. But one soul is driven by a very different force.

Love
It survives even death. And Kathleen O'Brien swore she would return to those she was forced to leave too soon.

Shadowman
He broke every rule to have her in life; now he will defy the angels to find her in death.

The Gate
Forging it is his single hope of being reunited with his beloved, but through it an abomination enters the world. Leaving a trail of blood and violence, the devil hunts her too. Pursued through realms of bright fantasy and dark reality, Kathleen is about to be taken...
Amazon : Barnes & Noble : Books-A-Million : Indie Bound

Shadow Touch
E-novella
(Kensington, June 1, 2011)
Magic
It is bleeding into our world, bringing with it banshees, wraiths, fae from the twisting forests of Twilight. But Ellie's problem is a very different kind of phenomenon...

Shadow
It ought to be attached to her; instead it has a life of its own. And her dark mirror image is a wild thing, willfully seducing the very man Ellie hoped could help.

Science
Cam has devoted his career to exploring the boundaries between this world and the Hereafter. But nothing could prepare him for the mischief and mayhem of a soul split in two.

Surrender
Who will give in first: the man struggling to unite two halves of one fascinating female; the shadow fighting for freedom to experience the thrill of every emotion; or the woman who is about to discover her own deepest desires?

Shadow Fall
Shadow 2
(Dorchester, July 27, 2010)
Sacrifice
Custo Santovari accepted pain, blood, even death, to save his best friend. But a man with all his sins just isn't cut out to be an angel.

Mystery
One moment he's fleeing Heaven; the next, he's waking up stark naked in Manhattan. In the middle of a war. Called there by a woman who's desperately afraid of the dark.

Shadow
It gathers around Annabella as she performs, filled with fantastic images of another world, bringing both a golden hero and a nightmare lover.

Wolf
He pursues her relentlessly, twisting her desires even as she gives herself to the man she loves. Because each of us has a wild side, and Annabella is about to unleash the beast.

Shadow Bound
Shadow 1
(Dorchester, June 29, 2010)
Death
Some people will do anything to avoid it. Even trade their immortal souls for endless existence.

Wraiths
Secretly, inexorably, they are infiltrating our world, sucking the essence out of unsuspecting victims with their hideous parody of a kiss.

Segue
Adam Thorne founded the Institute to study and destroy his monster of a brother, but the key to its success is held in the pale, slender hand of a woman on the run. There is something hauntingly different about Talia O’Brien, her unknowing sensuality, her uncanny way of slipping into Shadow.

Twilight
This is the place between life and what comes after - a dark forest of fantasy, filled with beauty, peril, mystery. And Talia is about to open the door.

It sounds as if the author has put an amazing amount of thought into creating the whole mythology and the characters, which I think is quite unusual.

    Thanks for the giveaway.
