Dead Iron: The Age of Steam by Devon Monk - Book & Bracelet Giveaway - July 6, 2011

I haven't had time to finish reading Dead Iron: The Age of Steam yet, but so far it's incredibly good. Devon Monk has created a very special steampunk world that I am enjoying immensely. I'll have a review up soon.

In the meantime I want to give away a copy of Dead Iron generously provided by ROC (the publisher) and a gorgeous steampunk bracelet made by Synde at Cemetery Cat Jewelry and provided by The Qwillery. The bracelet looks really nice with the book!

All he has to do is find the Holder: a powerful device created by mad devisers-and now in the hands of an ancient Strange who was banished to walk this Earth.

In a land shaped by magic, steam, and iron, where the only things a man can count on are his guns, gears, and grit, Cedar will have to depend on all three if he's going to save his brother and reclaim his soul once and for all...

I love Young Adult and Middle Grade books, but especially that grey area in between which gives us young protagonists whose adventures are told in sophisticated writing. (It's obvious that many YA/MG authors know a great portion of their readers are adults!)

Thanks for this chance! I've been dipping into traditional Westerns lately and finding them slightly wanting, but it would be great to read one with some steampunk edge! =)

  15. I don't really like to put books into genres as so many books are cross-genre and can be seen as one or the other according to readers preferences. However if you insist I will choose a wide genre and say Fantasy.

  28. I continue to read good things about this book. I'm only faintly familiar with the steampunk genre and need to read more.

As for my favorite genre, I'm a fan of dark fiction, so I'll go with dark fantasy a la Clive Barker, Stephen King, and Neil Gaiman.

  31. Wow, didn't know Devon Monk had a new one coming!

As for my favourite genre, that's a difficult one. I'm really big on the epic fantasy, as well as urban and steampunk (my love for the Victoriana era and all the machinery surfaced recently after I read The Magicians & Mrs. Quent and the Tchaikovsky books).
    So yeah, those three basically.

    Cheers!

  36. Sheesh, that's a tough question. YA used to be my favorite, but now I'm more into adult romance - gay romance, to be exact. I love contemporary, paranormal, urban, and distopian (though I have yet to see a gay distopian...).

I'd really like a copy of that book and that bracelet is just gorgeous.
